Boise Startup Week’s 2020 News Release

Boise Startup Week moves to virtual format to fuel Idaho’s ecosystem

Registration opens for event featuring pitch competitions, informational talks, and music by Magic Sword

BOISE, Idaho (Sept. 30, 2020) –– Boise Startup Week will take its fifth annual event, virtual, October 26-30, 2020. Interested innovators and community members are invited to register online. There is no fee to attend, but registration is required.

Boise Startup Week (BSW) has grown year-over-year since the event’s launch in 2015. In 2019, the event drew approximately 3,400 participants and awarded $51,000 to competitors across multiple pitch battles. The growth trajectory of BSW, and the ecosystem it supports, was featured in the national publication, Inc. Magazine, as part of its series on Surge Cities.

Inc.’s, Emily Canal, observed in her 2019 coverage, “…Boise is luring talent from those northwestern giants and other costly coastal competitors, attracting entrepreneurs with a newly thriving business scene and a good quality of life.”

The event’s mission is to support startups by engaging a cross-section of experts from varying disciplines and perspectives. Throughout the week, business and community leaders offer their expertise during informative, interactive, and educational sessions. Leadership identified 2020 as a critical year for startups which drove the decision to host the virtual event.

“The pandemic is restricting many opportunities for collaboration and mentorship which spurred our committee members and sponsors to restructure Boise Startup Week as a virtual, interactive event,” stated Tiam Rastegar, Executive Director of Trailhead Boise and Co-Chair of BSW. “This is a gathering of great minds, a network of action takers and innovators who support, build, and grow our communities.”

In previous years, attendees networked at block parties and dodgeball tournaments. Keeping with the spirit of the live event while adhering to social distancing requirements, the block party will go virtual with entertainment headliner, Magic Sword. Magic Sword, the enigmatic sythwave band, and other musical acts will provide entertainment throughout the week.

“We are working hard to maintain the customary features attendees are familiar with from previous years,” remarked Nick Crabbs, Co-Chair of BSW.  “Magic Sword brings an energy and atmosphere that is palpable beyond the screen which promises an unforgettable virtual experience.”
